Product Info

Mineral sunscreens, like those offered by My Day Screen™,  contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as active ingredients.

These are the only two active ingredients that the FDA has deemed to be Generally Recognized As Safe and Effective (GRASE) for use in sunscreens. Mineral sunscreens protect by reflecting the light.

Chemical sunscreens, like those with Oxybenzone, Avobenzone, Octisalate, Octocrylene, Homosalate, and Octinoxate as active ingredients, actually absorb into the skin to work. The FDA conducted a recent study and found that six of the most common chemical active ingredients tested were absorbed into the body. Some continued to be elevated beyond the FDA’s threshold of concern for three weeks after the subjects in the study stopped using the sunscreen. This study is referenced in the following article: https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/news/20200121/fda-skin-absorbs-dangerous-sunscreen-chemicals.

Glad you asked! Here’s how we are different:

My Day Screen™ products are mineral sunscreens and are made with plant-based ingredients. No harsh chemicals. None of our ingredients carry a rating of 3 or higher on EWG’s Skin Deep Database. Our sun care feels like skincare. My Day Screen™ is silky, soft, non-sticky, and non-filmy. All of My Day Screen™ packaging is planet friendly - either recyclable (aluminum) or made from recycled products (tube). Those cute bags that carry our products are made from cotton. (No wasteful cartons that you just end of throwing away.) We hope you use your bags daily – just like your sunscreen. We donate a total of $2 on every sale of $30 or more through our website to nonprofit organizations (Kidsave International and StandUp for Kids) that help youth find stable homes.

Yes, that’s a core feature of My Day Screen™. We carefully sourced our packaging for sustainability. The aluminum bottles and tins can be cleaned and recycled. Sometime soon we will offer refillable pouches for these products. The (outdoor) Face Cream is packaged in a recycled plastic tube.  We decided to place our products in draw sting bags rather than carton boxes. (We know you just throw those boxes away, right?) Bet you will keep the bags.

All of the My Day Screen™ products are vegan except the Body Melt - which is made with beeswax. Each of our product ingredients are over 90% natural. While the majority of our ingredients are plant-based, our products are not certified organic.

All of the outdoor collection products – the Face Cream and Body Melt – are water resistant up to 80 minutes.

We are proud of our ingredients! You can find a list of all ingredients for each product on the product pages of our website. We have also included a Drug Facts card in each bag that lists all the ingredients of the product.

Yes. Each of our products were successfully tested for their protection against UVA and UVB rays in an  independent lab. Please make sure you re-apply our products at least every two hours for continuous protection and more often when your skin becomes wet.

Our facial Tinted Drops have been tested for reducing blue light transmission. We tested the facial products because it is our face that is most exposed to blue light emitted from our computers and phones. Just as blue light may be damaging to our eyes, blue light may also be damaging to our skin (see below).

Our Fair/Light Tinted Drops reduce blue light transmittance by 61% (median measurement). Our Light/Medium Tinted Drops reduce blue light transmittance by 56% (median measurement). These tests were conducted in an independent FDA registered lab.

Our understanding of the damage to our skin caused by blue light exposure is growing. We attended a sunscreen symposium of cosmetic chemists at which the topic of blue light was raised. Very concerning. One speaker, a dermatologist, said that she is able to tell which side of the face a patient predominately holds a cell phone due to the hyperpigmentation on the patient’s skin. I was amazed and convinced we need to reduce blue light penetration on our skin!

No! Our products are People, Animal, Marine and Planet (PAMP) friendly.

No. Our market testing indicated that our products do not leave a white residue on most skin tones. Upon application our products may appear white, however, the whiteness often goes away after the product has been blended into the skin.

Yes, our ingredients are plant-based and do not contain chemical active ingredients. It is best to test any product on a small patch of skin – especially if you have sensitive skin.

Our active ingredients are mineral – zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. We have no chemical active ingredients.

Not necessarily. The body products can be safely used on your face. The facial products can be safely used on your body. Could you wear the tinted face products on your body? Well, you could, but you may want a non-tinted option like the Body Conditioner.

Sunscreen Information

The sun transmits electromagnetic radiation in waves or particles at different wavelengths and frequencies. This range of wavelengths is called the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum. Ultraviolet light (UV) is one of the regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

There are two types of Ultraviolet (UV) light that can harm your skin — UVA and UVB.  Broad-spectrum ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB) is the strongest and most damaging to living things, according to the National Toxicology Program.

UVA rays can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkling and age spots. UVB rays can burn your skin. Too much exposure to UVA or UVB rays can cause skin cancer. A broad-spectrum sunscreen can protect you from both UVA and UVB radiation.

SPF stands for sun protection factor, a measure of how well sunscreen protects against UVB rays.  (Sunscreens that pass the broad spectrum test can also indicate they protect against UVA radiation.) SPF testing measures the amount of sun exposure to cause sunburn - which is dependent upon a variety of factors (e.g., time of day, geography, etc.)  Each My Day Screen™ product has been tested in an independent lab to determine its SPF value. Each My Day Screen™ product has also been successfully tested to demonstrate UVA protection.

The FDA recommends you use broad spectrum sunscreens with SPF values of 15 or higher. If your skin is fair, you may want a sunscreen with SPF protection of 30 to 50.  Sunscreens with SPFs greater than 50 provide only a small increase in UV protection.

Apply sunscreen generously to all uncovered skin, especially your nose, ears, neck, hands, feet, and lips (but avoid putting it inside your mouth and eyes). Reapply at least every two hours.

Apply My Day Screen™  more often if  your skin becomes wet (e.g., from swimming or sweating). My Day Screen™  Outdoor Collection offers SPF protection of up to 80 minutes when our sunscreen is exposed to water. Please note, however, sunscreen is not waterproof.

Remember to apply sunscreen when you are indoors. Blue Light that is emitted from our computers, tablets, cell phones, and LED lighting may cause damage to your skin.

Our skin is constantly exposed to light energy – visible and invisible light energy. Whether we are indoors working on our computer, sitting under LED or fluorescent lights or outdoors enjoying a walk or swim, we are exposed to light energy.

A small amount of light energy can be beneficial (e.g., sunlight can boost Vitamin D). Prolonged exposure to light energy can damage and age our skin or may even result in skin cancer.

It is not always convenient or possible to avoid light energy. That is why we need to apply mineral sunscreen to protect us from indoor and outdoor light energy. As my dermatologist told me when I was diagnosed with skin cancer… “you need to wear sunscreen, it needs to be mineral and you need to wear it every day.” This is good advice for all of us!

Oh, yes! Clouds may only block up to 20% of the sun’s rays. In addition, the sun’s rays reflect off the clouds to become more focused and intense.
